31 Days of Scares- #17 ‘Event Horizon’ We’re Leaving
The 31 Days of Scares isn’t a countdown of the best horror movies. In fact, it’s not even about the best movies. It’s simply about some of my favorite “scares” or scenes from horror movies and they’re in no particular order. So there’s no need to debate countdown order. It’s pretty random. With that said: on to the countdown!
Well today sort of ran long and so I’m barely sneaking this one in before the end of the day. It’s currently 11:35 so it’s still the right day, but unfortunately I won’t have much time to dissect this scene. That’s probably for the best, though, because I’ve chosen a real quick scene.
“Event Horizon” is easily the best film not named “Mortal Kombat” Paul W.S. Anderson has ever directed. It’s a very cool sci-fi film that blends in paranormal horror and psychological scares. It also stars Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne, so those are automatic pluses.
For today’s scare I opted to go with a scene that is both the film’s most brutal moment and possibly funniest scene. At this point in the film Fishburne and his crew have boarded the Event Horizon and are attempting to find out what happened to the previous crew. In their search they uncover the ship’s logs and manage to decode them. However, once decoded the logs reveal a horrific orgy of blood and carnage. And Laurence Fishburne has the most logical and sensible response ever delivered in a horror movie.
