31 Days of Scares- #29 ‘The Thing’ – The Dog Kennel Scene

Our 31 Days of Scares countdown continues with a scare that’ll send chills down your spine.  Today we’re revisiting the 1982 classic “The Thing.”

I gotta give credit to commenter “Master” who suggested this great scare in our first post.  See? I wasn’t kidding when I said I was open to suggestions!

“The Thing” is filled with great cinematic scares mostly thanks to the fact that it has some tremendous practical effects that ground everything in reality.  But my favorite scare is when we first get our taste of the titular alien creature.  What exactly the Thing is at this point is still unknown.  As the audience we really haven’t gotten a good look at it. So the kennel scene is critical in showing just how horrific this monstrosity is.

In this scene we get mutilated dogs, monstrous creations, and tough badasses like Kurt Russel and Keith David losing their cool.  It’s the perfect scene to let us know that this “Thing” isn’t screwing around.  Check it out below.
