31 Days of Scares- #31 ‘Exorcist 3’ Nurse Scene
Welcome to the first of 31 posts! It’s officially October so, unlike the rest of the year, we get to finally focus on horror movies. Rather than talk about individual movies this year I thought it’d be fun to look at great scares from throughout horror.
Over the next 31 days I’ll be counting down to Halloween with what I think are the 31 best horror movie scares in no particular order. Now, I’m only focusing on scares and not the actual movies. So that might mean a terrible movie makes this list, but that doesn’t mean I think that movie is good. It just means I think the particular scare is worth talking about.
Also, if you want a particular scare from a movie to appear in the countdown be sure to leave a comment suggesting it. You might just make it into the list!
With that being said, let’s get down to the first scare in our month long countdown. In my opinion “Exorcist 3” features one of the greatest jump scares of all time. It’s a simple set-up with a huge pay off. The camera is fixated on this long hallway as you watch a nurse go about her business. As the scene plays out the tension quietly builds as you start to wonder “What the hell is going on here? What I’m supposed to be seeing?” And then, in the blink of an eye, it happens.
Check out the scene below and let me know what you think. Be careful with the volume, the scene gets incredibly loud at the end.
Holy crap, right? Jump scares can be a cheap tactic, but when done right, there’s no denying how effective they can be at getting your heart pounding. Even when I know it’s coming the sudden zoom and shrill noise still get me.
