‘A Cure for Wellness’ and ‘The Great Wall’ Open Up Small- What Did You Watch this Weekend?
Happy President’s Day weekend fellow Americans. Hope you got to enjoy a peaceful four day weekend. Did you head out to the movies this weekend? If you did you were probably one of the few to actually watch a horror movie this weekend.
With Valentines last week it comes as no surprise that “Fifty Shades Darker” did exceptionally well over the course of the week raking in $20 million. However, once everyone got their kinks out the kids took over the theater just in time for “LEGO Batman” which was the top winner this weekend with $33 million.
However, there were two new horror entries released on Friday that seemed to fly under the radar. Gore Verbinski’s “A Cure for Wellness” shuffled into the ten spot with $4 million. Meanwhile the Matt Damon Chinese epic “The Great Wall” did okay with $18 million. However, “The Great Wall” has nothing to worry about as it has already pulled in $200 million worldwide thanks to it being geared towards the Chinese market which has become a big target for Hollywood films.
And while the new horror titles didn’t make a big splash, it should be noted that M. Night Shyamalan’s film “Split” is still ranking in the top ten box office list. This week it came in at number 7 with $7 million raising it’s grand total to $124 million. That’s right, it made more than “A Cure for Wellness” in its fifth week in theaters.
So what did you see this weekend? Let us know down below.
