A New Season of ‘The X-Files’ is in the Works at Fox
The return of “The X-Files” earlier this year was a bit of a roller coaster. A couple of the episodes were pretty great, but unfortunately, the majority of them left me feeling like maybe the series should have stayed dead. However, despite all of that, the return of the iconic ’90s series was a hit for Fox and it looks like the network is looking to put together another season.
Deadline was present when Fox TV Group chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman opened up about the possibility of “The X-Files” during upfronts this week. According to the site this is what Walden had to say about their plans at the moment:
“We have had conversations with (creator) Chris Carter and (stars) David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show.”
However, don’t expect anything to happen right away. For now it seems like they’re hoping to get negotiations and planning done during the rest of the year so that they’ll be able to announce something next May. At the earliest they may do a summer event series in 2017 or bring back the show in the same time slot it had this year in 2018. So, either way, we’re a long ways off.
My greatest hope is that they’ll learn from the mistakes made this year and return with a more fully realized product. The quality “X-Files” show we all want is still out there, just waiting to be found.
