‘A Quiet Place 2’ is in Production at Paramount
If you’ve seen my review of “A Quiet Place” then you’ll know I loved the hell out of that movie. That being said, I’m not sure how to feel about this announcement.
CinemaCon is currently underway in Las Vegas and all sorts of first looks and announcements are taking place. For example, Paramount’s CEO Jim Gianopulos took the stage a little while ago and made the announcement that “A Quiet Place 2” was currently in production. With it being so soon after the release of “A Quiet Place” it’s no surprise that there aren’t a whole lot of details to share. So far we don’t know for certain if John Krasinski will be returning to the project, but I have to imagine that since he wrote, directed, and starred in it he will want to return in some capacity even if it’s just as a producer.
So far it’s too early to form a judgement on this. If Krasinski and/or screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods announced that they had a fantastic idea for a sequel I’d be eager to see what they had. However, without any further details this just sounds like a studio capitalizing on the success of a surprise hit. So a sequel for the sake of having a sequel makes me nervous. “A Quiet Place” stands alone as a perfect self-contained story and one of the biggest appeals of the film was the way it handled the lack of sound. I don’t know if that’s a trick that would draw audiences in for a second go around.
