A Serbian Film Banned In Australia
Just when you thought England was the most uptight country when it comes to its classification of films and its mind-set of still living in the dark ages of banning them, along comes South Australia.
According to FilmBiz, Srdjan Spasojevic’s controversial film, A Serbian Film, opens in Melbourne, Australia tomorrow, August 19th at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival which runs from the 19th till the 27th of August. Has been banned in the neighbouring state of South Australia.
The film hits DVD tomorrow in Australia also, but their board of classification has outright banned the film in South Australia. However, the film will be available in other Australian states with a restrictive R18+ rating.
South Australia’s Attorney-General John Rau said;
“It was grotesque at a number of levels. Exploitative sexual violence, offensive depictions of interactions between children and adults, exploitative behaviour generally of a nature that is so unusual that I can’t imagine how any right-thinking person could think that this was something that should be appropriately, legally obtained in South Australia,”
Just when you think the smoke has cleared, A Serbian Film continues to cause controversy where ever it goes and I’m sure this isn’t the last we will hear on this one.
