‘Amityville: The Awakening’ Gets Pushed Back to 2017
Well, I just don’t know. Earlier today it was announced that Dimension Films had pulled Franck Khalfoun’s (Maniac) Amityville: The Awakening from its release this April 1, 2016, and no explanation was given. Now Deadline have received exclusive word that the film will get released, but you’re gonna have to wait until 2017.
According to the site, the film is now set for a release date this January 6, 2017. The reason for the film being pulled? Well, apparently TWC execs and producer Jason Blum got a look at the finished film and suddenly decided that the film will be better suited to a release in January of next year. This is because “people like to be scared at the start of a year.”
The film will also be the first horror film released in 2017, so it kind of makes sense, but why go through all the trouble of hyping your fan-base up with trailers, posters and TV spots, and then pull it a little under a month from its release!?
I guess it really is true, Amityville is freakin’ cursed! I feel sorry for all those that worked hard to bring the film to life, to then just get it constantly pushed back.
So, will you guys bother to watch this one next year, or is it too little to late?
The film stars Bella Thorne, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cameron Monaghan, Thomas Mann, Taylor Spreitler, Mckenna Grace, and Kurtwood Smith.
Synopsis: Belle, her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan in order to save money to help pay for her brother’s expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.
