Another Director Found for “The Stand” Adaptation

Stephen King’s iconic novel “The Stand” seems to be having trouble holding on to a director for it’s big screen adaptation.  First there was Ben Affleck, who dropped out of the project to play Batman, then Scott Cooper (“Out of the Furnace”) took over.  And now a third name has been attached to the project.

Warner Bros. announced today that Josh Boone would be taking over for Scott Cooper.  Not only will Josh Boone be directing the project, but he’ll also be putting together a rewrite of the script.  If the name doesn’t sound familiar, it’s because Boone is a relatively new face on the scene.  His first film, “Stuck in Love”, was released in 2012 and earned some good critical praise.  Next up he has “The Fault in Our Stars” and “Lisey’s Story”, which is another Stephen King story.

If his current slate stays the same, we shouldn’t be hearing anything concrete about “The Stand” for another few years.  Given the scope and premise of the novel, that’s probably for the best.  The task of translating such a dense novel into a feature film is not one that I envy.
