Blumhouse Making ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’ with Chris Columbus
Man, I feel like I got to witness the early development of this project. I remember a few years ago I was in an interview with Jason Blum and we got to talking about video games when he mentioned that he had this game on his phone called “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” At this point it had already become a pop culture phenomenon, so it was interesting to see that the zeitgeist had reached someone like Jason Blum.
Now here we are three years later and Jason Blum has revealed that he is working on a film adaptation of “Five Nights at Freddy’s” with director Chris Columbus spearheading the project. The news was announced via Deadline who also revealed that Columbus would be writing the script. If you’re not familiar with FNF all you need to imagine is trying to survive a night in a nightmarish Chuck E. Cheese where the animatronics come alive at night and try to kill you. The games are excellent for jump scare fun, but there’s not a whole lot of meat on them bones even though they tried to make the narrative of the game a bit more convoluted as the series went on.
I’ll be curious to see if this is more of a children’s horror feature or a teenage fright flick. What do you think? Are you excited for a “Five Nights at Freddy’s” film? Let us know below.
