[Book Review] Monster Massacre Vol. 2

Monster Massacre Vol. 2 is Titan Comics latest graphic novel which is an anthology featuring some of the best talent that Asia has to offer at the moment from the artists over at Stellar Labs and Imaginary Friends Studios.

Basically, the talent have free rein to do as they please and they do not hold up for one second. The novel is filled with all sorts of mayhem, showcasing demons, beasts, cyborgs, dinosaurs and enough naked chicks to have this one placed on the top shelf of your nearest news-agents. Yep. This sucker is intended for mature readers, so you may want to keep this one away from the kids, or at least beware of people veering over your shoulder trying to get a quick glance.

The anthology flows quite well, but my biggest gripe is that I find many of the stories a tad too short. For example, Bagus Hutomio and W.H. Rauf’s New Dawn Fades, I found myself becoming totally drawn into the story and the luscious artwork before it came to an abrupt end. But then, perhaps that is just the point, but it would have been nice to see a little more focus on the stories just as much as the animation.

The same goes for Chris NG’s Bounty Journal. The animations are beautiful, and the idea of this super hot chick laying waste to demons is awesome, but again its just too short which is a shame as I would love to see this expanded into something more.

Just as much as the anthology is filled with super hot chicks battling demons, dinosaurs and a host of other beasties. We’re also taken into the world of the bizarre. Well, I say bizarre as this is a kind of first for me, but I’m sure many of you guys are well accustomed to this. But in any event, here we have Reza Ilysa’s Hell-o-Kitty, which actually took me by surprise.

Basically it’s a cat taking on huge mechanoids in an epic battle and strangely enough it works and it comes together very well. The story is clear with vision and its visually stunning, a very well put together story that surprised me for all the right reasons.

And the stories continue ranging from a dinosaur with an appetite for honey to a female cyborg getting her rocks off for your enjoyment in a sort of simulation. There is all sorts here and it will be hard for you not to like something as it is very varied while sticking to an adult theme.

And once you’re done with the stories, the book is broken up with some awesome artwork throughout for you to gander over. In short, its a fun little read at just over 170 pages. So, if you’re looking for something a little bit different, or if you’re like me and you’re new to this sort of thing, this is definitely the route you should take as there is a bit of everything and it’s a great introduction.
