‘Brightburn’ Trailer Reveals a Young Boy with Superpowers and a Taste for Killing
This admittedly slipped under my radar when it dropped on Friday. Perhaps it was because I was running on a hype train fueled by the “Avengers: Endgame” trailer and the release of Smash Bros. However, I have a clearer mind today and I realized that we really need to talk about “Brightburn.”
This was the movie that was originally supposed to be promoted by James Gunn at this years San Diego Comic Con, but those plans got scrapped when Gunn was fired by Disney and removed from “Guardians of the Galaxy 3.” However, all that drama has settled down now so Sony is now free to put out a trailer with Gunn’s name attached to it.
For a long while we didn’t know a whole lot about this project other than it was some kind of horror movie and that Gunn was attached as a producer. Well, now we know it’s a superhero horror movie. And not just any superhero, this movie looks like an extremely dark take on the origins of Superman. Check it out below.
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
“Brightburn” will hit theaters Memorial Day 2019. Check it out below.
