Bruce Campbell Said No to Another ‘Evil Dead’ Movie
We’ve known for a bit now that Bruce Campbell’s Ash would be riding into the sunset after the cancellation of “Ash vs Evil Dead,” but some fans have been holding out on the idea that maybe . . . just maybe . . . Bruce would return for an “Evil Dead” movie. Well, here’s some news to dash those hopes.
“Ash vs Evil Dead” produce Robert Tapert was part of a Q&A at Motor City Comic Con and was asked about what the future of the “Evil Dead” franchise would have been had they not been cancelled. Speaking candidly, Tapert revealed that the events of season three could have led to a movie reboot, but Bruce Campbell turned it down pretty quickly.
We felt that through the third season the series kind of leaned in where it wanted to go and we had a really great idea to where it was going to go in the future, and it was something Sam had been talking about in rebooting a movie, what that scenario could be. Then Bruce wrote to Sam and I one day and said, ‘If they don’t (renew Ash vs. Evil Dead), I’m retiring from Ash.’ We went, ‘Wait! Bruce, what about a movie?’ ‘I’m done, I’m retiring.’
So… we’ll see. Sam and myself have been talking about what a new incarnation could be.
While it’s a bummer Bruce Campbell is completely done, that last bit is pretty interesting. We know that recently director Fede Alvarez was still showing interest in doing a sequel to “Evil Dead” so could they be connected to that?
Either way, Bruce Campbell seems to have dug his heels into the idea of retiring Ash, so I don’t foresee him returning to the franchise anytime soon. That being said, at least it looks like the spirit of the series could live on.
