‘Chucky’ Series to Will Be Closer to the Tone of the First Two Films

There’s been a lot of Chucky news as of late, which is always fine by me, but it’s so wild to think that we’ll be getting a version of Chucky on the big screen and the classic version of Chucky on the small screen.  As of late we’ve been getting a lot of news for the big screen adaptation with the new trailer, but recent news sheds light on what we might expect from the series.

Recently we learned that Chucky will have a new home on the SyFy channel.  Well Slash Film reached out to producer Nick Antosca who shared a few more details with them.

For now it sounds like the title of the series will simply be “Chucky.”  Which makes sense as the films after “Child’s Play 3” dropped the “Child’s Play” moniker and just featured “Chucky” in the title in some way.  Since there’s a brand new movie coming out that is reusing the old “Child’s Play” name, just sticking with “Chucky” would help to establish it as a separate thing.

But bigger than the title is the fact that the tone of the series will be a bit more darker than the most recent films. According to Antosca:

“The series is going to be closer to the tone of the first two movies in the series though,” Antosca said. “It’s going to go back to a sort of classic scare.”

I think it’s fair to say that the Chucky film have become a bit of a dark comedy.  They’re not out right hilarious, but there’s no denying Chucky has a twisted sense of humor that is more prevalent now than it was in the first few films.   It’ll be interesting to see how that’ll translate on screen.

Another point that Antosca brings up is that the series will exist within the mythos of the current film series.  It’s unclear when in the timeline this series will take place, but it’s possible characters like Tiffany (played by Jennifer Tilly) and Nica (Fiona Dourif) could show up in the show.  However, the show will focus primarily on new characters.

Honestly, I’m really excited to see a series that tries to take Chucky back to his more basic form.  While I enjoy all the crazy hijinks he’s gotten up in the past few years, a more straightforward horror film with the doll could be a refreshing take. What do you think?  Let us know down below.
