Comic Con 2017 in Photos – Part Two
So the first day of Comic Con was pretty easy going, I didn’t have a whole lot going on and I didn’t really see a lot of photo opportunities. The second day, though, was a bit more jampacked. I had everything from a fashion show to a viking funeral to attend. That’s right, they sent my ass to a fashion show. Well, in reality, someone else wanted to go and I couldn’t say no. But we’ll get to that part later. For now check out the photos down below.
Our first stop of the day was the LAIKA exhibit in the Gaslamp District. First off, major thanks to the LAIKI people for helping us get in at the last second, you guys were a lifesaver. Back to the exhibit. Here we saw some Comic Con exclusive merchandise that was actually reasonably priced. If I wasn’t already on a budget I would have left that store needing to be on one. They also had quite a few pieces from their various films on display including sets and figures from “Coraline,” “Paranorman,” “The BoxTrolls,” and “Kubo and the Two Strings.”
How incredible is that final piece? Apparently there’s a version of him that’s nearly 20 feet tall on display at a Portland museum. It’s too bad I couldn’t see him in person, but I imagine transporting that monstrosity around would be a technical nightmare. Not to mention where would you even put him?
Next up was the Her Universe Fashion Show which was a stunning visual affair, but hell on my ears. As you can see in the picture there’s a giant box pointing right at me, that’s the speaker and it was apparently cranked up to 11. It hurt like hell to sit on that side of the audience, but whatever, the show was actually very cool. As I was looking at the program guide I discovered that two of the contestants had gone against the grain of Disney-inspired dresses and had made dresses based on “The Shining” and “Stranger Things.” Sadly, the contestant who made the “Shining” dress had withdrawn, so her dress wasn’t on display. Still the “Stranger Things” dress was pretty rad. You can check it out in the YouTube video below featuring a parade of dresses. The “Stranger Things” dress is being shown off by the model with the crutches. She was really amazing to watch.
Next up is a barrage of photos I took either in the exhibition hall or just around the con. A lot of them are pretty self-explanatory.
Yeah, that’s an actual Landspeeder that a kid could drive like a Power Wheels car. In case you’re wondering, it retails for $500 and goes about 5 mph.
Next up is the viking funeral that was put together as part of a promotion for History Channel’s “Vikings” show. The funeral was pretty cool as they lit a boat on ‘fire.’ There was actual fire, as you’ll see below, but the boat didn’t burn down as I was hoping. Also, I thought they were going to launch a fire arrow into the boat, but sadly that didn’t happen either. Still, the crowd was crazy excited to see a boat burn and we got beer horns after so it was all pretty rad.
And this year I didn’t take any cosplay pictures really, but I did find one particularly awesome looking costume to this post on. Thanks for taking the journey with me and stay tuned for more photo trips in the future.
