Cool ‘Critters’ Fan Film From the Director of ‘ThanksKilling’
With new “Critters” content on the horizon in the form of a digital online series, you have to wonder who would be up to the task of directing a series based on such a campy property. In order to capture the spirit of the film series, you would have to be able to combine a high level of absurdity with some good general mayhem. Not an easy task, but perhaps the director of “ThanksKilling” is up to the challenge.
Director Jordan Downey has taken an interesting approach to getting Warner Bros.’ attention. In order to make his case for being the right man for a “Critters” series, Downey went ahead and created a short “Critters” fan film. It’s an impressive little piece of work that captures the look and feel of the film Here’s what he had to say about the project:
Critters Bounty Hunter was completed from start to finish in under two months with a small budget and an even smaller crew. All in, a total of six people worked on the movie: Myself, Kevin Stewart, Ricky Fosheim, Nick Soole, Troy Smith and Gina Luciani. We shot for two nights at a house in Mammoth Lakes, California. The Critter puppet was built by Troy Smith who worked with us on both ThanksKilling movies. Our crew handled everything from building the bounty hunter costume, learning the VFX required to pull off the glowing head, scoring, title cards, sound design, etc. We’re proud of what we pulled off with limited resources and can’t wait to share this with everyone. Turn up the volume and hit HD – We hope you enjoy our fun little take on Critters!
Check out the video below and let us know if you think Jordan Downey should get a shot at the “Critters” series. Based on his previous work and this short, I think he’s a perfect match for “Critters” and could potentially do a lot for a franchise that has been collecting dust for the last decade.
