CW’s iZombie Gets Casting and Release Update
Once Upon A Time and Masters of Sex) is firmly set as the lead, we now have Veronica Mars alum Percy Daggs III set to make an appearance. He will guest-star in an episode of the CW’s upcoming show which will reunite Daggs and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas, who co-created iZombie.
Daggs will play Sean Taylor, a wealthy genius who lives in Seattle. When he gets a job offer in Silicon Valley, he plans to move his wife Penny and 6-year-old stepdaughter Anna there, but then finds himself in a tough custody battle with Anna’s father, Everett. But the problem is seemingly solved when Everett is killed. And because this project is headed by the Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas, this title is sure to be filled with mystery and intrigue. And it is sort of like Veronica Mars, but our main characters is, well, a bit “dead-ringer.”
Here’s a little bit about iZombie so you can see what I mean about the “dead-ringer” part:
iZombie was first a comic book series created by writer Chris Roberson and Michael Allred, published by DC Comics‘s Vertigo imprint beginning in 2010. The series deals with Gwen Dylan, a revenant gravedigger in Eugene, Oregon and her friends Ellie, a 1960s ghost, and Scott, a were-terrier. iZombie was nominated for the 2011 Eisner Award for Best New Series so this is a got clue as to “why a television series now. Gwen can pass for a regular girl, but she needs to eat a brain once a month to keep from losing her memories and intelligence.
As a gravedigger she has plenty of access to recently deceased people; when she consumes their brains she “inherits” part of the deceased’s thoughts. She has to do this as her life is changed forever when she attends a party that turns into a zombie feeding frenzy. In the television adaptation, she works in a police department’s homicide department, as a medical student, in the morgue. As far as working in a morgue – How convenient is that if you have to snatch up a few fresh brains every now-and-again, eh?
It looks like this title is pushed back to the early 2015 season as there’s no reported release for this year. So the latest report is mid-season.
