Danny McBride Joins the Cast of ‘Alien: Covenant’
Here’s a casting choice I never would have considered, but the more I think about it the more it starts to make sense.
The Wrap has learned that raunchy comedian Danny McBride has signed on to co-star in Ridley Scott’s upcoming sequel to “Prometheus” known as “Alien: Covenant.” McBride will be joining Michael Fassbender, who returns as the shifty android David, and fellow new addition Katherine Waterston. Actress Noomi Rapace, who was last scene with David at the end of “Prometheus”, has opted to not return for the sequel.
Here’s how the Wrap describes “Alien: Covenant”:
Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Even though Danny McBride is known for his comedic schtick of being a jerkish slob, I think he’d be a good fit in the “Alien” universe. He has the look of a person that would be a space trucker. I could easily imagine him spending time on the Nostromo. Now, if they try and pass him off as a scientist, that might be a harder pill to swallow. Still, I’m eager to see Danny McBride branch out more and try roles outside of the strictly comedic realm.
