Dimension Films Acquires ‘Transference’
Not to be confused with the Johnny Depp thriller “Transcendence” or even Hideo Kojima’s mind-boggling “Transfarring“, Dimension Films has acquired the rights to horror film “Transference.”
Deadline learned today that the studio purchased the pitch from the writing duo of Brandon and Phillip Murphy. The story centers on “residents of a small Bible belt town (who) grapple with the onset of a global outbreak of demonic possession that spreads like a virus.” Sort of like a zombie outbreak, but with demons. I don’t know if the infected will act like zombies, but I’m sure there will be plenty of murder and malice given their nature.
As far as I can tell, this is the first writing project for the duo aside from a stint on the “Dumb and Dumber” cartoon. Given that Dimension has only purchased the pitch, it’s hard to say when we’ll see further development on the project. However, I think the concept is unique and puts an interesting twist on the typical outbreak-type story. It could potentially be like [rec] set against the backdrop of the American bible belt.
