Fear the Walking Dead Breaks Cable Records with Premiere
If you were one of the few people who forgot to tune into AMC yesterday then you might’ve missed out on one of the biggest cable premieres ever. “Fear the Walking Dead” made it’s debut on Sunday night and continued the annual “Walking Dead” tradition of smashing network competition.
The premiere of “Fear of the Walking Dead” might’ve resulted in some mixed reviews with some people loving it and others left feeling lukewarm, but people tuned in amass resulting in 10.1 million viewers watching the premiere. This not only crushed Sunday Night Football ratings, but also established a new record for a cable premiere. Unsurprisingly, the previous record holder for a cable premiere was AMC’s other hit series “Better Call Saul.”
Another interesting factoid is that the original “Walking Dead” series premiered to 5.35 million viewers. It’s incredible how far and wide this show has stretched over the years. Typically the first and last episodes of a series tend to draw the biggest crowds, but it’s still amazing to see that a spin-off “Walking Dead” series can command these kind of numbers. At this point you’d be expecting some sort of zombie fatigue to be setting in, but clearly people still have a hunger for the undead. It’ll be interesting to see how the premiere of “The Walking Dead” this October matches up.
