Friday the 13th Has Found a Director
If there’s one concern that the horror community can unite around, it’s the serious lack of “Friday the 13th” in our lives. After a well-regarded remake in 2009, the series went dormant and fans were left wondering what would happen to their favorite campground killer. Recently there’s been some rumblings that a new film could be in the works, but there hadn’t been any concrete developments until now.
The Wrap has learned that David Bruckner, who wrote and directed the “Amateur Night” segment for “V/H/S”, is in talks with Platinum Dune and Paramount to direct the upcoming “Friday the 13th” sequel. If you’ll recall, there were some strong rumors indicating that the “Friday the 13th” franchise would move towards a found-footage presentation. If those rumors pan out to be true, then David would make an appropriate choice since he has experience with that genre. However, I know there’s a really vocal group of fans who are hoping that doesn’t come to pass. And, honestly, I gotta admit I share their concern.
As for a release date, it would appear that Paramount is still shooting for that March 13th release in 2015. If they sign David soon, it should be easy to put together a film well before that release date. However, we’re now less than a year away from that date, so they better get things in gear or elsewhere our Jason Voorhees drought will be even longer.
What do you think of David Bruckner taking over the directing duties for Friday the 13th? Yay or nay? Let us know!
