George Romero’s Son Wants to Make ‘Night of the Living Dead: Origins’
Life has an interesting way of bringing things back to the beginning. For example, forty six years ago a man named George Romero popularized the idea of the modern zombie and now his son wants to look back on that film and reveal the untold origin story of “Night of the Living Dead.”
For those of you that prefer your zombies to be mysterious in origin, this may come as an unpleasant surprise, but if you’ve ever wanted to expand upon the mythos of George Romero’s classic film than you’re in for a treat. George Romero’s son, G. Cameron Romero, is looking to create a film about the origins of the zombies featured in “Night of the Living Dead.” He’s also hoping to get the project started by crowdfunding it on Indiegogo.
Cameron Romero is hoping to raise $150,000 to get the project started. This would help them to hire actors, department leads, and to help secure additional funding from outside investors. Meaning that if there’s public interest in this, other groups would be more willing to invest in the film as well. You can read about the project on their Indiegogo page which includes various tiers of rewards. Among them being the “brain trust” reward which gives you a voice in the film’s production for $30.
At this point you might be wondering what the origins of “Night of the Living Dead” could possibly be. Here’s how the film is described on the official page:
In 1962, Dr. Ryan Cartwright was on the scientific and altruistic path to find a way for humans to sustain life in the event of M.A.D (Mutual Assured Destruction), a huge topic brought on by the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Little did he know that over the course of the next several years of his life, he would take a well-funded and military focused journey to the darkest corners of the world… as he creates the ultimate weapon for the government and a curse that will plague mankind for the rest of days.
There you have it, well-meaning scientists screw us over again. Thanks science. Why can’t you just give us hoverboards and flying cars instead of destroying mankind every chance you get? Anyways, what say you? Are you interested in seeing this story told? Will you be contributing to the project? Let us know below!
