Get Ready to Purge Again with ‘The Purge 3′
Yup, that’s right. The micro-budget horror/thriller continues to prove to be a safe bet for Universal and Blumhouse Productions and, as such, it would appear that we’re getting another sequel to “The Purge.”
Deadline revealed today that Universal is gearing up for another “Purge” film and has tapped writer/director James DeMonaco to return again to spearhead the project. DeMonaco wrote and directed the previous films and is expected to do the same for the third.
No details are available about the third film’s plot, but I’ll take a stab in the dark and say it’s about a world where, for one night of the year, all crime is legal. Meaning you can expect a movie with lots of murder and debauchery.
If you’re currently shaking your first at your monitor and asking why Hollywood would make another “Purge” film, the answer is pretty simple: imagine a dumptruck full of money pulling up to your house and depositing its contents on to your yard. The last two “Purge” films have been obscenely profitable when you look at how much they cost to make. As Deadline points out, the last two films combined cost around $12 million to make while they grossed over $200 million in the box office. Given the low cost of entry, it’s practically like getting something for nothing.
That being said, I still like the overall concept behind “The Purge” and I think there’s potential for something truly special to come out of this series. So I welcome a third film taking another shot at it. What about you? How do you feel about another “Purge” film? Let us know below!
