‘Ghostbusters 3’ is in Development with Jason Reitman Directing and You Can Watch the First Teaser Now
This is potentially exciting as hell. It looks like we may actually be getting a proper sequel to the original “Ghostbusters” series. Not only that, but there’s already a teaser trailer available.
Entertainment Weekly has revealed that director Jason Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman who directed the first film, is working on a sequel that will be set in the same universe as the first films. Jason will both direct the upcoming sequel and co-write it with Gil Kenan (“Monster House”).
Jason Reitman, if you’re not familiar with his career, is an Oscar nominated director who has worked on great films like “Juno,” “Up in the Air,” “Young Adult,” and “Tully.” So this is a game with some incredibly strong comedic and dramatic chops.
At this point there isn’t a whole lot to reveal about the announced film, but it is expected to start filming in a few months with a targeted release in Summer 2020. One of the rumors going around is that the film will involve the old Ghostbusters passing down the torch to a younger generation, but we’ll have to wait and see what sort of official announcements come out. For now, I think this quote from Ivan Reitman about his son doing the project is kind of touching and encouraging:
He worked really hard to be independent and developed a wonderful career on his own. So I was quite surprised when he came to me with Gil and said, ‘I know I’ve been saying for 10 years I’m the last person who should make a Ghostbusters movie, but…I have this idea.’ Literally, I was crying by the end of it, it was so emotional and funny.
And there’s one more surprise. Reitman also revealed a brief teaser trailer which really plays up the nostalgia. Check it out below.
