Godzilla Sequel Officially in the Works
Whether you loved it or not, there’s no denying that “Godzilla” stomped into the weekend and laid waste to the box office competition. So far the film looks to be earning a cool $93 million before the weekend is over. Add in the international box office and the film is already over the $100 million mark.
So with financial success and generally positive reviews pouring in, it comes as no surprise that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have gone ahead and revealed to Deadline that a sequel is on the way. Of course, this early on, I doubt they have any specifics for a sequel nailed down. However, as Deadline points out, director Gareth Edwards has indicated that a sequel would follow a similar “restrained” presentation. Meaning that the monsters wouldn’t be the center of attention.
Personally, I hope he eases up on that restraint as I felt that the movie could have used a lot more Kaiju action to compensate for the fairly dull human characters. If he’s going to keep utilizing this method, then he really needs to spice up the characters and make them as compelling as Godzilla.
So what would you like to see in a Godzilla sequel? Do you think it’s time to bring in the major Toho monsters like Rodan or even King Ghidorah? Or should they continue to make up new threats for Godzilla to fight? Let us know what you think.
