Hannibal Returns February 2014
Though “Hannibal” might have belly flopped when it came to the ratings, the show certainly made a splash with critics and fans. It seemed like an impossible task to wring out a compelling television series out of a hit movie that spawned a few underwhelming sequels. However, show creator Bryan Fuller managed to do it and now he’ll be getting the chance to continue his story when “Hannibal” returns next February.
NBC announced today that they would be bringing “Hannibal” back on a new night this February. The second season is set to debut February 28th on Friday at 10 PM. A time slot that is currently held by NBC’s “Dracula”, but that’ll be finished by the time “Hannibal” is ready to go.
The reason for the shift from Thursday to Friday is two-fold. One is because Friday night has become NBC’s “horror” lineup. The network currently has “Grimm” there and had it paired with “Dracula”. With “Dracula” coming to an end, it allows the network to slip in “Hannibal” and continue their theme. The second reason, I imagine, is to help bolster Hannibal’s ratings. ”Grimm” has been a strong performer for the network and I’m sure they’re hoping that some of the viewers from that show will carry over to “Hannibal”. It’s certainly worth a try as the move couldn’t hurt the show’s ratings.
Will Graham is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership, and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…
Starring Hugh Dancy as Will Graham and Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal Lecter, “Hannibal” will breathe new life into a deadly classic. Laurence Fishburne and Caroline Dhavernas co-star.
