Hansel and Gretel 2 Coming in 2016
I liked “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.” It was dumb and by-the-numbers, but it had a certain charm to it that I thought made it enjoyable to watch. So while the rest of the world may be proclaiming “WHY?!” I’ll be over here giving out a quiet little “Yay!”
At Paramount’s CineEurope screening of “Transformers: Age of Extinction” they came out with quite a few announcements, including the pushback of “Paranormal Activity 5.” They also revealed that a few notable movies were getting release dates in 2016. Among them was “Hansel and Gretel 2.”
We’ve actually known that a sequel to “Hansel and Gretel” was coming since way back in 2013 when Paramount made their first announcement. However, things went quiet after that initial reveal and we hadn’t heard much since. This confirmation that a sequel will be coming in 2016 at least confirms that project is very much alive and kicking.
Given that the first film’s director, Tommy Wirkola, has finished his work on “Dead Snow 2″ he could be free to once again return to direct the next film. Which I really hope is the case, because I think his visual flair was part of the reason the original film was so enjoyable. 2016 is still a long ways off, though, so we probably won’t hear much more for awhile.
