Harold Ramis Has Passed Away
Though his connection with horror is tenuous, at best, I feel that we should mention that actor/writer/director Harold Ramis has passed away at the age 0f 69.
Ramis is probably best known for portraying Egon Spengler in the 1984 film “Ghostbusters”, but his career extended well beyond that. As a writer he worked on such films as “Caddyshack”, “Animal House”, and “Stripes”. Easily some of the best comedies of the 70s and 80s. He also had a knack for directing, which included films like “National Lampoon’s Vacation”, “Groundhog Day”, and “Analyze This.” Though his public image may always be “that scientist guy” in Ghostbusters, Ramis was an extremely talented individual who created many staples in our pop culture lexicon.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Ramis’ health began to decline back in May of 2010 after a severe infection that forced him to relearn how to walk. In 2011 he suffered a relapse of vaculitis, which is an inflammation of the blood vessels. He was surrounded by his family when he finally passed away at 12:53 am.
The Chicago Tribune has a beautifully detailed write-up of the man’s life and career that you should read if you’re interested. I wouldn’t be able to craft a finer tribute. Thanks for all the laughs, Ramis.
