‘Hellboy’ is Getting a Reboot with Neil Marshall in Talks to Direct and a New Man Under the Red Paint
A few month ago director Guillermo Del Toro shared with the world that “Hellboy 3” was definitely not happening. At the same time we also learned that it wasn’t necessarily the end of the “Hellboy” franchise. It was all a bit cryptic at the time, but now we know a bit more about what’s going on.
THR is reporting that Millennium is looking to reboot the series with a new director and a new star. According to the site it appears that director Neil Marshall is in talks to take over duties from Guillermo Del Toro. Marshall, as you might know, broke out into the scene with his hit horror film “Dog Soldiers” and then followed it up with the more widely popular film “The Descent.” As of late he’s been turning out great television episodes with work on “Game of Thrones”, “Westworld” and “Hannibal.”
And while the director is a big deal, in the case of “Hellboy” the man under the make-up is going to be equally important. Ron Perlman owned that roles. It’s nearly impossible to imagine anyone else stepping into those shoes. So he is taking on the challenge? It’s the Sheriff from “Stranger Things” David Harbour. Honestly, I never would have picked him for the role, but it’s a solid match. His mannerisms and attitude in “Stranger Things” would fit well with the gruff “Hellboy” character. It’s one of the few casting choices that could possibly get me excited for a new “Hellboy.”
All of this is kind of up in the air though as everyone is still in “talks.” Hopefully we’ll get some official confirmation soon enough. With Comic Con not too far it’s possible they might wait till then to make official confirmations, but we’ll just have to wait and see. For now, what do you think about the two possible choices for director and star? Let us know.
