Infamous Game ‘Night Trap’ Could Get a Re-release
Whether you played it or not, the infamous FMV Sega CD game “Night Trap” partially shaped the future of your gaming experience. When the government was having its own little video game witch hunt back in the 90′s, “Night Trap” was included among titles like “Mortal Kombat” and “Doom” as games that were deemed inappropriate for children. Ultimately, it was these games that led to the ESRB rating system that we have today. And now “Night Trap” could be getting a second chance at life.
CVG is reporting that James Riley, the man who currently holds the rights to the game, has revealed that a re-release of the game could be in the works. In a posting on the Night Trap Facebook Community, Riley told fans the following:
“I appreciate your on-going interest, but please understand I do plan to re-release Night Trap and have been talking with a number of interested parties to do so. However, the specific platform(s) have not been confirmed (including online) and I will let you know once we have a definite plan and release schedule.”
He went on to also say that, if the game were to get its re-release, it would be released with higher resolution video and improved gameplay mechanics. Presumably to make the game more accessible as beating the original was a test of dexterity and patience.
If you’re not familiar with the original “Night Trap”, you should know that it wasn’t as horribly graphic as the government made it out to be. Essentially it was about a bunch of teenagers having a slumber party where they’re assaulted by zombie/vampire creatures called Augers.
The violence in the game is on the level of a Three Stooges movie and doesn’t get gorey at all. As the player, you monitor the video feed coming from the house try to foil the Augers by capturing them in hilariously stupid traps. Here’s a video you can check out below to give you a better idea of what the game was like.
