Insidious Chapter 3 Has Been Confirmed
James Wan may be leaving the horror genre, but he couldn’t have picked a better time. This week sees the director leaving the genre with his latest film sitting at the top of the box office. But with him gone, will this clearly profitable franchise still be moving forward?
The short answer: yes. The equally short, but sarcastic answer: duh.
Entertainment One, Film District, and Sony Pictures have announced that they will be developing a third sequel in the Insidious franchise. The big question, though, is who will be returning for the sequel?
Leigh Whannell, who penned the script for the first and second “Insidious” films, will return again to write this third chapter. Meanwhile, Jason Blum and his production company, Blumhouse Productions, will continue to help produce the film along with Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity).
And who will sit in the director’s chair for the next installment? No announcement has been made yet, but it doesn’t seem likely that it’ll be James Wan. Perhaps Whannell will step up and try his hand at directing? It would seem fitting since he’s been so involved with the franchise. Whoever it is, they’re stepping into the big shoes left behind by Wan.
