James Wan Will Produce the ‘Resident Evil’ Reboot
Just yesterday we ushered in the inevitable news that the Resident Evil film franchise will be receiving the reboot treatment with Germany’s Constantin Film spearheading the decision. However, not much else was revealed at that time.
So, in comes Deadline to reveal that James Wan will be producing the first of the Resident Evil reboots and Greg Russo (Mortal Kombat) will be penning the script. The film will also have an entirely new cast attached, although a director has yet to be announced.
The James Wan produced Resident Evil flick will be the first of six in the rebooted franchise, and considering how much the franchise has made worldwide, a whopping $1.2B, it’s no wonder they’re continuing with a new slate of films.
Now as a fan of the Resident Evil games, especially the first three, I’m hoping they will implement more of the characters from the video game, and perhaps stick closer to the canon story. I’ll be more than happy to have the first film set in the mansion, I’ll even take the b-movie-esque opening of the first game. But that’s just me, what would you guys like to see happen if you’re excited for a reboot of the franchise?
