Jurassic Park 4 Latest Movie Updates

Jurassic Park 4 is all the buzz mainly because we can not stop talking about how fantastic Jurassic Park 3D is. I figured now was as good a time as any to do a quick run down on all the latest updates for Jurassic Park 4 and some of the hilarious rumors.

Earlier today we talked about how Jurassic Park 3D has been a huge success at the box office but its also been a truly genius marketing move by Universal for Jurassic Park 4. The original audience of Jurassic Park is much older so what is the best way to lure in the old fans and make new ones without spending any money on advertising? Re-release Jurassic Park 3D and bring in the original fans who are now parents whom drag along their kids and blow their minds with the 3D and the hijinx that is really smart geneticists who dont see how dinosaurs in a park is not a good idea.

700 Artists took 6 months to convert Jurassic Park into 3D and from what our readers are saying it is awesome. Done for a reported budget of $10million its now made over $52million at the box office but frankly that is besides the point. Universal has just reignited a conversation around their franchise, reached a whole new younger demographic and made $42million in the process.

That my friends is how you market a new movie without your fans even knowing it and is a true win win. Fans get an awesome experience and Universal makes money. If only all studios thought this way.

Moving onto Jurassic Park 4 the first easy one to cover is will it be in 3D or 2D. The answer is not a shocker, Jurassic Park 4 will indeed be released in 3D. Whether it will be converted after or truly shot in 3D I do not know but given the heavy amounts of CGI I am told its irrelevant.

Converting CGI into 3D after in post is apparently not hard to do and can match the quality of a movie shot in actual 3D. Those of you who are 3D gurus feel free to sounds off in the comments. All I know is Alice in Wonderland 3D which was converted after was crap. Judge Dredd which was shot in 3D literally blew my mind and made me a believer in 3D after years of hating on it.

As far as who is directing it everyone myself included thought that Steven Spielberg would direct the project but we all got a shock when they tapped a relative unknown to direct Jurassic Park 4 (3D).

Colin Treverrow who directed the low budget sci-fi film Safety Not Guaranteed has been appointed the heavy task of directing Jurassic Park 4. A complete unknown to most horror film fans I really have no opinion on him directing it. All I can say is Safety Not Guaranteed was a quirky fun indie ride but not a movie for everyone. Jurassic Park 4 will not be an artsy indie flick it will be a balls to the walls blockbuster of action and flesh ripping Dinosaurs. So interesting choice in director to say the least.

As far as the plot this is a real grey area since there have been many rumors some of which are plausible and some that if they end up being true make me want to bang my head against the wall. The funniest story was the idea of scientists combining human and Dinosaur DNA to build a new hybrid to fight the dinosaurs and defeat them.

This makes sense since we all know that a Dinosaur is bullet proof so we need to spend millions making genetically modified super dino-soldiers. Or we could just shoot them full of holes with anti aircraft guns and bye bye dinosaur. So yes the whole mutant-dino-human theory is both funny and stupid. The other theory which has some merit is that Jurassic Park 4 will be set before the first film and will show the actual creation process and will then be able to transition into a new franchise which will run parallel to the original three Jurassic Park movies. Joe Johnston who directed Jurassic Park 3 and at one time was involved with Jurassic Park 4 told Screenrant quote;

“Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go, but it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically, but when it gets to that level it’s sort of about studios and Steven’s thing and who knows.”“We are in discussions about ‘Jurassic Park 4.’ The most important thing I can tell you is that it starts a new trilogy that will go off in a different direction — a completely different direction that is very exciting, and different from anything we’ve seen.” Johnston continued by saying that, “It starts with the history of the first trilogy, but it spins it off in a completely different direction. That’s all I can tell you.”

This would mean new characters and no need to bring back existing actors from the old movies or explain where they are or what happened to them. This frankly for me seems to be the most plausible but also could be the most boring since who wants to watch a prequel story about out of control Dinosaurs with no dinosaurs? A movie about finding genetic material is not very exciting.

At around the same time that ScreenRant was talking with Joe Johnstone Collider was talking with producer Frank Marshall who said that the Jurassic Park 4 will not be a remake, will not be a prequel but will in fact be sequel.

By far the funniest rumor for what Jurassic Park 4 will be about came from Bloody Disgusting who reported that the movie would see Laura Dern return as Dr Sattler from the original films and it would feature.. ready for this? Dinosaurs trained to use Weapons.

Imagine the tag line potential. “You thought the T-Rex Was scary Before? Now hes mad and packing heat.” I am not sure how a T-Rex’s stubby arms can fire a machine gun much less scratch his belly. Were they planning on replacing one of his eyes with a laser beam? Or mounting a turret on his head? Oh the hijinx and stupidity.
