Lars von Trier is Writing a Horror Movie Set in Detroit
How many of you read that title and thought: “Oh, is it a documentary?” You’re horrible people! But I thought that too.
Lars von Trier, the man known for directing and writing films like “Antichrist”, “Melancholia”, and “Nymphomaniac” is finally setting his sights on a full-blown horror movie. It could be argued that a few of his prior films have dabbled in horror, but this looks to be an actual entry into the genre.
According to Soundvenue via Indiewire, the project originated after “Salvation” director Kristian Levring had continually pestered von Trier to take on a horror film. A pursuit that finally culminated a few months ago when von Trier told him “I want you to stop talking about it, so I’ll write it for you instead.”
So far all we know about the project is that it’ll be set in Detroit and will possibly be called “Detroit.” The project is in early development, so plot details are slim, but they did mention it’ll be about a man battling with his inner demons.
Given that they’re still in the early stages of writing a script, I wouldn’t expect to hear much about this project for a long while. In fact, it might not ever come to fruition. But the idea of Lars von Trier properly tackling the horror genre is enough to get my interest. I hope we hear more about this someday soon.
