Lionsgate Finds a Director for Leprechaun Reboot
The Wrap has revealed that Zach Lipovsky has been pegged by Lionsgate and WWE Studios to helm the reboot of the classic Leprechaun franchise. Yes, the one where Warwick Davis plays an Irish stereotype that murders people.
Lipovsky might be an unfamiliar name to you and that’s okay, because he is a bit of an unknown. Though he has a few short films under his belt, Lipovsky’s biggest claim to fame is that he won Steven Spielberg’s reality show “On the Lot” where he beat out 16 other contestants for a development deal with Dreamworks. Having just checked his IMDB…that doesn’t seem to have gone anywhere. However, Lipovsky has an extensive background in the field of special effects, so that does give me hope that the Leprechaun will look alright.
While the original Leprechaun was brought to life by Warwick Davis, the reboot will feature a new man under the make-up. This time it’ll be WWE superstar Hornswoggle, hence the involvement of WWE Studios.
While I’ve always enjoyed the hilarity of the Leprechaun films, I don’t have a strong connection to them. So a reboot of the franchise doesn’t really have an impact on me, however, I haven’t heard anything about this project to get me super excited about it. What do you think? Is the film on the right track? Let us know in the comments.
