Lionsgate is Working on a Blair Witch Series
While the recent “Blair Witch” revival didn’t light the world on fire, it must’ve done something right as it looks like Lionsgate is considering it for a potential series.
Deadline reported today that Lionsgate has announced the slate of content being produced by their new studio “Studio L.” Now, the interesting thing to note about Studio L is that they are focused on making digital content. As part of their mission they’re looking to form partnerships with “leading brands and digital platforms as well as distinctive creative voices.” It’s unclear whether that means their content will head straight to VOD services or what, but it sounds uh . . . “new age.”
Well along with the various projects being announced for the studio one surprise revelation was that they’re developing a series based on “The Blair Witch Project.” No word on what that means, so it literally could be anything. It could be a found footage series like “The River” or an anthology series using all the weird nonsense that takes place in the Black Hills that we’ve seen in all three “Blair Witch” films. Your guess is as good as mine. At this point they’re only saying that they’re developing the series, so it’s entirely possible that it doesn’t go further than that. Only time will tell. What do you think? Would you watch a “Blair Witch” series?
