Magnet Releasing Acquires ‘The Eyes of My Mother’

Recently premiering at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, was Nicolas Pesce’s directorial debut The Eyes of My Mother, and as such, the film caused quite a stir as a few festival goers couldn’t handle the gory story which played out before them, according to Variety.

So, a film which has movie goers fleeing from the theatre? Where the heck do I sign up!? Well, Variety has reported that Magnet Releasing has acquired the worldwide rights to The Eyes of My Mother, with a theatrical release planned for later in the year.

The film is shot in black and white and has been described as Alfred Hitchcock meets Roald Dahl meets the Saw franchise, so yeah, who else is freakin’ chomping at the bit to get a taste of this one?

Nicolas Pesce stated the following;

I’m very excited for the film to have found a home with Magnet. They’re responsible for releasing so many of the movies that inspired me, so to be included in this family is incredible. The life they’ve given to both foreign and domestic genre films is unparalleled, so for ‘The Eyes of My Mother’ to be released through them is a dream come true.

The film stars Kika Magalhaes who plays Francisca, a young woman who has been unfazed by death from an early age. Francisca’s mother, a former surgeon, imbued her with a thorough understanding of the human anatomy. When tragedy shatters the family’s idyllic life in the countryside, Francisca’s deep trauma gradually awakens some unique curiosities. As she grows up, her desire to connect with the world around her takes a distinctly dark form.
