‘Mama’ Director Could Take on ‘It’ Remake
A few months ago the remake/new adaptation of Stephen King’s “It” seemed to be moving on quite nicely. It had a promising director in the form of Cary Fukunaga and even found an actor to take on the role of Pennywise. And then, suddenly, it came to a screeching halt when Fukunaga abruptly left the project. The whole project seemed up in the air, but now there could be movement on it again.
The Hollywood Reporter has learned that “Mama” director Andy Muschietti is in negotiations to direct the feature film. Along with the addition of a new director it looks like New Line will also be looking for another writer to work with Muschietti in crafting a new story. It would seem that the studio still has intentions of making this a two-part film.
Muschietti has been attached to other films in the past including the “Mummy” remake and was rumored to be working on another project for Universal, but this seems to be the new direction he’s moving in. It’s also not known if Will Poulter will return to star as Pennywise. The actor left the project after things began to fall apart, so it remains to be seen if he’ll be available when the production starts up again.
