Music Mogul Dr. Dre to Produce New Horror Film
Hip Hop artist and producer Dr. Dre is putting together his first feature film titled “Thaw”. The story follows an ancient evil that emerges from the rapidly melting ice in the Yukon. Sounds like it could be a cool film. Maybe it will have shades of “At The Mountains Of Madness” in it.
I for one hope he can put something together that is actually frightening and effective. It would be nice to get a mainstream horror film that is not about teenagers or vampires and remains in 2 dimensions.
The script is being written by Vik Weet for his Crucial Films production company. Dr. Dre launched Crucial Films in 2007 with a first look deal with New Line Cinema. There is no director or cast attatched to the film at the moment nor is there a release date scheduled. If Dr. Dre can attract some serious talent to this project then it could be something to really look forward to for horror fans. We will follow this project and hopefully more details will come to light in the next couple of weeks.
Vik Weet is relatively unknown as a writer at the moment. His only other script is about the investigation in the 1959 Dyatlov Pass incident, where nine experienced hikers were found dead in Russia’s Ural Mountains. That is currently being developed by director Renny Harlin.
Dr. Dre has had small acting parts in movies like “Training Day” and “The Wash”, but this is his first venture in to actually producing a movie. One has to wonder if he is a big horror fan he is. Currently music fans are awaiting his long in development, follow up album “Detox”. His first two albums, “The Chronic” and “2001″ have sold millions world wide. He is responsible for introducing the world to artists like Eminem and 50 Cent.
