Nazi Zombie Movie ‘Overlord’ Could Be ‘Cloverfield 4’
Are you still waiting to get a trailer or even just an image for the third entry in the “Cloverfield” franchise? Forget that, it’s old news. We’re now moving on to “Cloverfield 4” and it’s already done filming.
Almost a year ago to the day we learned that J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot were working on a WWII horror movie about zombies and supernatural creatures called “Overlord.” Since that announcement we haven’t heard too much about the project or seen any fruits of its labor. However, it looks like there may be good reason for that as /Film is reporting that “Overlord” has been adopted into the “Cloverfield” family of films.
This pretty much fits the current “Cloverfield” M.O. After the first film they started taking existing projects and placing the “Cloverfield” branding on them with only mild connections connecting them. For example, “10 Cloverfield Lane” started off originally as a movie called “The Cellar” before getting some rebranding and becoming part of the “Cloverfield” universe. The connections to the previously “Cloverfield” movie exist mainly in the viral marketing, but they’re there. The same thing is currently happening to “God Particle” which is getting a bit of that “Cloverfield” magic sprinkled on it right now. So it’s not too shocking that “Overlord”, a project “Cloverfield” producer J.J. Abrams helped produced, is being placed under the same umbrella.
So what is “Overlord”? Here’s how it was described last year . . .
The story follows two paratroopers who are caught behind enemy lines after their plane crashes on a mission to destroy a German Radio Tower in a small town outside of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. After reaching their target, the two paratroopers come to realize that besides fighting off Nazi soldiers, they also must combat against supernatural forces that are a result of a secret Nazi experiment.
It’s being directed by Julius Avery and stars Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo. No word on when we’ll ever see anything about this one, but the rumor is that we could see a trailer for “God Particle” on Super Bowl Sunday. So . . . maybe we’ll see stuff about “Overlord” some time after that.
