NBC Orders Pilot for Constantine Series
It’s exciting to live in a world where comic books are cool again. It seems like it wasn’t too long ago that comic book readers were viewed as some kind of social pariah. And now look at us, reigning supreme as kings! Okay, it hasn’t come that far, but still, it’s a friendly climate. And now comic books are extending their reach on television with a new series based around “Constantine.”
DC and NBC have announced today that they are teaming up to create a pilot based around the Vertigo/DC anti-hero John Constantine. Readers might remember that there was a movie about the character in 2005 which starred Keanu Reeves. It was a decent movie, but a poor adaptation of the comic character.
Development of a script will begin shortly with David Goyer (“The Dark Knight”) and Daniel Cerone (“Dexter”) set to handle the writing duties. The series is based around the character of John Constantine who is a con-man turned occult detective. Constantine was based in London, but there’s no word on whether or not the TV series will follow suit.
