NBC to Bring the Wolfman to Television
Despite the fact that NBC’s “Dracula” is currently underperforming when it comes to viewer ratings, the network is looking to bring another classic Universal monster to their Friday night lineup.
Deadline is reporting that the Universal owned network is looking to adapt “The Wolfman” into a television series. Helming the project will be Daniel Knauf, who is currently the head writer on “Dracula”. Not much is known about the project at this time, other than that it will follow the Wolfman mythos and will center around Lawrence Talbot, a man cursed to become a monster when the moon is full.
While it may seem strange that NBC is pursuing a supernatural series while “Dracula” struggles in the Nielsens, keep in mind that they have another show on Friday night that is still running strong: “Grimm”. Clearly there is a market for the supernatural on the network, it’s just a matter of finding something that’ll appeal to the general masses. ”Dracula” may not be drawing in the crowds, but it has a niche appeal that brings in a smaller demographic. A “Wolfman” series could potentially tap into that same market or attempt to go in a broader direction. With Knauf at the helm, anything is possible.
