Nicolas Winding Refn is Working on a Female-Centric Horror Film
The man behind such films as “Bronson”, “Drive”, and “Only God Forgives” may be finally trying his hand at a straight up horror film. Nicolas Winding Refn and playwright Polly Stenham are teaming up to create a female-centric horror film.
The move to make an all-female horror film might seem like a drastic change for a director who has worked on violent male-driven films, however, having a strong female cast is something he’s been trying to accomplish for some time. According to The Standard, Refn has admitted in the past that he has “set out wanting to make films about women but it always ends up being about men. Maybe it’s because I don’t know how to write them.”
In order to rectify the situation, Refn reached out to Polly Stenham, a rising star in the theater world, to help pen a script for a horror film centered around women. The film is currently titled “I Walk with the Dead” and Carey Mulligan (“Drive”) is already rumored to be attached to the project.
So what sort of horror film it be? Refn would be right at home directing a gruesome feature, but he also has a deft hand for psychological films. Stenham tells The Standard that ”It’s going to have a bit of everything.”
