Penny Dreadful Gets a Second Season Order

Have you been watching Showtime’s newest show “Penny Dreadful”? I haven’t, but that’s because I don’t own Showtime.  From what I hear, though, it’s pretty great.

And it would appear that many of you out there think it’s pretty great as well, because it’s done so well that Showtime has gone ahead and order a second season just four episodes into the first season.  Deadline is reporting that series writer John Logan has already begun writing the next season, which is expected to be longer than the current season’s eight episode run.

Deadline also highlights an interesting fact surrounding the success of “Penny Dreadful.”  The TV ratings for the show haven’t been very impressive as it only pulled in around 900,000 in its premiere.  However, the show has done exceptionally well with Showtime on Demand and Showtime Anytime.  Showing that people will watch your show if you provide them with enough avenues to legally obtain it.
