Prometheus Exceeds Box Office Predictions
Ridley Scott’s hotly anticipated flick Prometheus, exploded onto our screens this Friday, exceeding the studios expectations and beating out Dreamworks’ family friendly flick Madagascar 3.
According to Deadline, Prometheus is standing tall, and while it played in less theatres than Madagascar 3, Prometheus just edged out in front on Friday with $21.4M while Madagascar came in with $20.4M.
As the weekend progressed, Madagascar managed to climb ahead, but there is no denying that Prometheus did extremely well being an R rated flick going up against a PG monster.
Prometheus was expected to make a return of $30-35M for the weekend, but it looks as if the film will be closer to receiving an impressive $49M. Its not just the States where Prometheus has done well. When the film opened Internationally it amassed $51M with strong opening day figures in Australia, Korea and Taiwan.
I was surprised to read a few negative reviews from many sites, but regardless of their views, I really enjoyed this one, and with takings at as high as they are, this looks very promising for that proposed new trilogy to take place.
Hopefully it comes to fruition as I have many unsolved questions, and I just want to see Ridley Scott unleash more majestic beauty, as this film is a true treat for the senses.
