PS4 Horror Game ‘Until Dawn’ Could Get a Sequel
With very little buzz surrounding it leading up to it’s release “Until Dawn” might be the surprise horror video game hit of the year. The game has not only been a critical success, but it’s also managed to sell pretty well. So well, in fact, that it might get a sequel.
Playstation Lifestyle had a chat with Supermassive Games Executive Producer Pete Samuels about the game and its reception and he revealed that the sales for “Until Dawn” had “definitely surpassed expectations.” The team is now internally discussing what they would do as a follow up to “Until Dawn”, but its sounds like they’re planning to release other projects before they get around to that sequel. Here’s what he had to say about the possibility of “Until Dawn 2.”
I think that you should expect the team to build on what we’ve done with Until Dawn, whether it’s in horror or in other genres. We’re already working on one thing that does that, whilst exploring other avenues for our other teams in anticipation of them finishing their current projects. We do talk internally about what Until Dawn 2 could be, as it clearly can’t be a sequel in the traditional sense, with the same characters facing the same threat, not least of which because in different stories some or all of them are already dead! We’ve investigated other ways we could do Until Dawn 2 but it probably is a little early to be discussing that.
Going an entirely different route for “Until Dawn 2” sounds like the best choice. It’s always hard to do a sequel to a game where player choice is so important. Inevitably you have to decide on what the “true story” is, so you’re forced to ignore certain outcomes and choices that players might have made. By crafting an entirely new story you don’t have to face those challenges. Personally, I think it’d be interesting if the “Until Dawn” series used a radically different setting. Imagine the same kind of game, but placed in an “Alien”-like setting.
