[Rec] Director Takes on “Damned Friday”
The co-director of the [Rec] series is set to strike out on his own for a new project centered on the world of vampires.
Variety is reporting that Paco Plaza is teaming up with his [Rec]3 star, Leticia Dolera, to work on a movie based on a mock trailer he created that then became a comic series. The project is called “Damned Friday” and will star Leticia as a woman struggling with her family, her boyfriend, and with becoming a vampire. If that sounds a little “Twilight”-ish to you, keep in mind, this is Paco Plaza we’re talking about here.
Producer Adrian Guerra describes the project as a “Black Swan’-style drama applied to the vampire genre with a really strong central female character taking the audience on a gritty, emotional roller coaster.”
Plaza went on to add that “I’ve shot a werewolf movie, a bunch of zombie films, but as a horror film fan, I felt I really wanted to shoot a vampire film. There’s only one thing I can say for sure: there will be blood.”
Like Plaza’s other works, this project will be shot in Spain and will be a foreign language film. If you haven’t seen the original mock teaser trailer that inspired so much interest, I’ve included it down below.
