[Review] Trevor Juenger’s Coyote

The film was Trevor Juenger’s Coyote, and it’s a total mind-fuck, a visceral assault on the senses and a film that reminded me why I love this fucking genre!

Let’s be clear here though, folks. This isn’t for everyone, and I’m sure many will be disturbed and possibly offended, but this is a very personal film with no limits, except that of Juenger’s imagination, and what a ride that must be to live inside his head.

So, in the film we follow Bill Oberst, jr., who plays the character Bill. A writer. A man whose life is quickly heading on a downward spiral into the darkest regions of his sleep depraved mind. A man living on the edge, and with each passing day his hallucinations get worse and escape into the real world, or do they?

I tell you. I could watch this one over and over again and there will still be something new. Something that I missed. It plays deep into your very own mind and I often questioned my very own sanity while watching this one. It’s out there, oh it’s definitely out there. If David Lynch and David Cronenberg had a baby, Coyote would be the twisted offspring writhing on the floor.

But as with any film, the film is only as good as the cast involved and Bill Oberst, Jr., freakin’ nailed it. At one moment he is playing a calm, smooth talking man, and the next, snap! He’s this depraved monster firing on all cylinders with his snarling facial expressions and pin point accuracy. He’s a true joy to watch as we see his character quickly unfold in the twisted world that Juenger created.

i an only imagine the punishment his body went through while shooting this sucker, some of the scenes that Oberst pulls off are insane, but boy did they do the job. It’s brutal, uncompromising and in your face. I guarantee you will not stop thinking about this one once it has ended. it plays on your psyche as you try to understand just what the fuck happened.

There is so much going on in this film that I simply cannot put it across into words for you. Basically, you just need to hunt this sucker down and get ready to have your mind raped , because that is exactly what Coyote will do to you.

Now, as much as the film is a visual blast with on and off-screen violence and vivid imagery, the score just fits in so well. In parts it sounds bizarre and totally out-of-place, but for some reason it just works and that really helps elevate this art-house flick into something much more, and it’s awesome!

If Trevor Juenger is the future of horror, we’re in very safe hands indeed, and long live the indies! Also, if anyone has Marilyn Manson’s number, get him to hook up with Juenger for his next music video.

Coyote has quickly become a firm favorite of mine and I can see this one becoming a cult favorite among horror fans in the years to come, if it hasn’t already. All I can say to you is go check it out, you may hate it, you may like it, you may want to burn this one out of existence! Either way, this one will leave a lasting expression on you for better or worse, and isn’t that the point of a horror film, to evoke some sort of emotion?
