Ridley Scott Says the Chestbursters, Facehuggers, and Xenomorphs Will Be Back for ‘Alien: Covenant’
The future of the “Alien” franchise is in a strange place, but the one thing we can be assured of is that some familiar faces will be returning to the series.
Director Ridley Scott did an interview with The Wrap where they talked about his past, present, and future film projects. Among these included the upcoming “Alien” film “Alien: Covenant.” As you might recall, the arrival of “Covenant” meant that Neill Blomkamp’s “Alien” film was put on the backburner. It seemed like a traditional “Alien” film was no longer in the works, but now it seems like Scott’s film will definitely be more “Alien” than “Prometheus.”
Here’s what the director had to say to the Wrap:
Yeah. Well, really it’s “Alien.” They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made. Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it.
There was always this discussion: Is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy. I think maybe we can go another round or two.
It’s great that we’ll see the traditional “Alien” creatures back on the screen again, but the lack of Xenomorphs wasn’t a problem for “Prometheus.” The major issue was the overall story of the film, so hopefully that’s the aspect that’ll actually be improved upon for “Alien: Covenant.”
