RIP Betsy Palmer- Mrs. Voorhees Has Passed Away

Sad way to end the week, but it looks like a horror icon has left us.  It was revealed today that legendary actress Betsy Palmer has passed away at the age of 88.

According to her manager, Brad Lemack, Betsy was in a hospice care center in Connecticut when she passed away on Friday May 29th.   Lemack told the Associated Press that Palmer passed due to natural causes.

To horror fans Palmer will always be best remembered as mother of the Jason Voorhees who sought revenge on immoral camp counselors in “Friday the 13th.”  However, he storied career spans well beyond that as she starred on stage, television, and film.  The actress got her break on television starting in 1951 with the short lived TV series “Martinsville, U.S.A.” From there she appeared in numerous TV shows and TV movies until appearing in “Friday the 13th” in 1980.

Betsy reportedly took on the role of Mrs. Voorhees to pay for a car she wanted. Unbeknownst to her that one off movie would become one of the most defining moments of her career.
